I am planning to replace my mechanical gyro instruments and get rid of the vacuum system. I am not contemplating a big screen PFD but would install a 3-1/4" electronic AI. The TruTrak Gemini ADI would have my preference, but I am puzzled by the singularity of the pitch display which is not actual pitch attitude. My question to those who are using this instrument is: how easy is it to use it in simulated or actual IMC?

Remi,
Have you considered the new Garmin G5? There are some interesting details about it on the Vans forum here http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=136282
This could possibly be a better bet than a Dynon D10 or Tru Trak.

I have just fitted and tested out the Gemini AP which uses the same technology. I was sceptical about how it would be compared to steam but have been very impressed. I have used it for simulated IMC (holds and let downs and general) and its very usable.

Thanks to those who have responded to my question. It seems only two Europas are fitted with the Gemini. Raimo Toivo says his Gemini (an early model AI only ) never worked properly while Graeme Bird says his (recently installed auto pilot version) works perfectly. That is not enough to make statistics! Personally I am very satisfied with my experience with the TruTrak Pictorial pilot I installed 5 years ago, so I will probably go ahead with the Gemini ADI.

Hi Remi
I was looking at the information on th Gemini, just out of interest, and
spotted a response on a forum suggesting ordinary attitude information
was about to be available as an option. May be worth asking TruTrak.

I've had no trouble with my little Dynon D6. It fits perfectly into the hole for the old AI and the square sides of the EFIS just touch the edges of the ASI and Altimeter. The compass remote sensing unit in the rear fuselage gives an accurate read-out across the top of the display.
Recently I replaced the balance ball, which is duplicated in the EFIS, with the VSI and the Airmaster prop controller now occupies the hole where the VSI was. A "slimline" balance ball now sits close under the D6.
