Kolb List Another HKS Engine question

I have been trying to figure out how to mount the HKS so that the exhaust pipes do not interfere with the wings when folding the wings. I tried moving the ailerons so that they hinged "away" from the exhaust, but with the wings in the fully folded (stowed) position, the exhaust pipes will  occupy the same space as the wing trailing edge tube, regardless of where the aileron torque tube is.



The only obvious solution is to move the engine upwards several inches (taller spacers between the engine and mount plate). But after the detailed discussion we had about thrust lines affecting the flight characteristics.... the experienced Kolb flyers have made it clear that I need to keep the engine mounted as low as possible.



So my question for the Kolb / HKS engine owners is: How high above the stock Kolb airframe engine mount pads is your thrust line? How tall are the spacers mounted under your HKS engine, to allow the trailing edge tube to clear the exhaust pipes?

My spacers are two inches high. You have to stow the wings with the ailerons up, but it fits. I am swinging a 66 inch warp drive nickle edge prop.Larry

Thanks Larry, I believe your engine is mounted further forward than I have mine (temporary mounted on plywood). I moved mine rearward a little to put the bottom propeller tip further away from the bottom of the fuselage steel cage..I have the same exhaust pipes as you do.



I will take some photos of my specific problem this week and post them to this list, hopefully someone will be able to see and identify where I've gone wrong.
