In my very best James Cagney voice... "All right you mugs... you asked for it !" Attached are photos of the current state of progress on my HKS engine upgrade on the Firestar 2.
A 3/8" aluminum engine mount plate was made, with the engine mounted on 2 inch risers.
The engine mount plate also has an extended section for the rear oil cooler mount bracket.
The oil cooler mounts lengthwise on the starboard side of the aircraft, with the top surface of the cooler flush with the top surface of the airfoil.
The rear oil cooler bracket is mounted ont he engine mount plate. This requires a front mount that is not rigid, in order for engine movement to NOT twist or bend the cooler.
The oil tank mounts on a 6061-T6 aluminum weldment. This weldment (and the oil tank) mounts on the port side of the upper fuselage keel tube.
The engine ignition coils, ignition controllers, etc. will mount on a 2024-T3 plate forward of the oil tank.

By the way, the yellowish color bracket at the rear of the oil cooler was left a little long and un-trimmed, because I suspect there may have to be something else mounted to this bracket later on. So the sharp corner on the top of that bracket will eventually be rounded and smoothed. The color is from the mil-spec primer (probably genuine toxic Navy Zinc Chromate), because I got that angle extrusion from a project that was being built by an ex-US Navy engineer

Just looking at your mounting of the oil cooler - if it was me, I would be using something more like pure rubber at the front and back - probably something more like this:

or this -

I have used 2 of these for years to hang the muffler on my MKIII - grind off the rivet heads, and throw away all the metal parts, keep the rubber hangar and use it. It is cut from a section of tire sidewall and flexes well without coming apart. Every third year I throw them away and put in new ones just so I don't have to worry about it.
I just have a bad feeling that those nice aluminum brackets you currently have are going to fatigue, crack, and disappoint you. They look nice tho...

Thanks Richard, I appreciate your comments. One thing that is not clear in the photos is that there are large diameter rubber grommets in both the cooler-mounted bracket and the airframe-mounted bracket. The pivot bolt shown in the photos goes through both grommets.
So with the rubber in both aluminum pieces the cooler can move easily without deforming or twisting either of the aluminum brackets, plus it can rotate on the pivot bolt.
The rubber padding on the modifieed Adel clamps holding it to the steel cross tube is only to protect the steel tune. The "compliance" or flexibility i the mount comes from the grommets.

No, I think most are not doing anything more than sitting by the fire.
I know that the dust is thick on my plane at the moment.
