The manual says you need to connect the fuel lines to the engine (very useful idea) but is a bit shy on explaining how. I assume they need to go through the steel sheeting but I cannot quite visualise how or where. I also assume some sort of anti-chafing is necessary. Any good suggestions?

If you decide to pass the fuel lines through the stainless steel firewall, which is what I did initially 20 years ago, mark a square or a rectangle on the sheet just big enough for the hose line/s to pass through. Make 2 diagonal cuts from corner to corner within the rectangle to form an 'X', then fold the 4 points at the 'X' intersection back on themselves to lie against the sheet. This will leave the edges smoothly rounded and not able to chafe the hose/s. Fill in the gaps around and between the hoses with flame retardant silicone.

You should also secure the hose/s on one or both sides of the sheet to prevent them sliding back and forth through the opening.

In later years I covered the rectangular hole and rerouted the two hoses via gaps at the top left and right corners of the stainless sheet.

Sorry Jeroen, but I don't have such photographs and I don't possess a camera. I've never taken photos of my aircraft while I was building it.

I guess that you should make your own plan for routing the fuel hoses to minimise risk of chafing and to allow for engine movement. Also to avoid passing the hoses too close to hot engine components.

It seems that most builders make their own plans for such things.

Bob Archer wrote about firewall penetration many years ago. Take a look
