Can't call that one a tail pipe. More like a head pipe.

- we are both from the same era - but I won't go there...
At least now the muffler is balanced right at the hang point. When you are running it up, you can grab hold of the hanger bracket, and you don't feel any vibration at all. So whatever is coming in now is totally from the single cylinder engine, whereas before it was a lot more noticable - I am thinking that it was bad before from the extra mass of shaking the exhaust system back and forth in resonance with the engine.

I am wondering if the exhaust outlet is pointed at the fabric, making it too hot. Any sign of it? Maybe it ought to be turned up?

We turned it just barely down so if we got caught parked in the rain it wouldn't run down inside the muffler, but next time I run it I'll check. Thanks.
