I had a problem similar to this in a Yak 52. A Friends Yak the problem was the fire valve was closed. Fire Valve fuel shut off valve, tried for about an hour till a friend came over sat there pumping the primer keeping it running till it quit sat there and looked around and said is this lever supposed to be off? problem solved turned the fuel ON.
#1 throttle pump probably after pressurizing the system, on a Yak the system primer-pump (wobble pump) draws from the header tank by passing the fuel valve also why #2 the wobble pump works. #3 primer CYL also by passes the fuel valve. so go to the engine side of the fuel shutoff valve and see if you have fuel flow.
I believe in a Yak when you run out of fuel there is 2 gals in the header tank that can be accessed buy the primer pump as it draws fuel from the bottom of the tank the header tank is there to supply fuel to the engine inverted and when upright that fuel is unavailable.

Still working on this engine. Starts but won't run unless 1. Throttle is pumped constantly or 2 wobble is pumped or 3 primer is pumped. Any of which will keep engine running at 1500 +_.
I have taken the carberater and fuel pump off running engine with no effect. Also cleaned points in both mags.
Any ideas?

Seems like it is not getting fuel, or there is an intake leak and the
mixture is too lean. Maybe the mags are not working and it is just the
shower of sparks that is firing. Be sure the magneto wiring is correct.

Sam Saxs had a similar problem. Sam and I had bought two new engines from Aerostar at the very same time. I had mine in my CJ before Sam and was running well. Sam installed his engine and sometime later on a run-up, his engine quit. He could get the engine started but not keep running as your's seem to be doing. Back at the hangar, he found a screw missing on top of the carburetor. This was the only screw NOT safetied on the carb right out of the factory. It was a port used to drain the preserving oil out of the carb after storage. His screw had come out and fallen away. He quickly called me and I found that my screw was VERY loose and about to fall out. He saved me from an engine failure in the not too distant future. Now I can't remember if the HS6 carbs are exactly the same as the M-14s, but give that a quick check.

If it is a CJ6
Make sure the transfer switch (magneto) in the rear cockpit is in the
correct position ?

Perhaps, the packing on the wobble pump or lack thereof, is causing you some
grief.
Was the engine test run at the factory? Mag timing is correct?
Just some thoughs/ideas.

Thanks Jill. I replaced the wobble pump with new and it pumps fuel out at the carb. I have not checked the timing on the mag. I should have paid more attention to that part of the class when I was in Kingman.
