Hey all in Commander Land,
N634CT now sports the MR RPM 500S turbocharger conversion too.
Test flying we requested 25,000 but ATC would only allowed 23,000, at cruise
power settings TAS was 220.
Single engine climb, at METO power, climbing through 20,000 at Vyse.
Maintained 500 fpm. LH eng hit CHT temp limit there.
Take off weight 6720 lb.
For a little 500S with 290 HP a side it's a hot rod.

How long have you had N634CT? I think I flew that airplane a while back,
before it had received any TLC...

Thanks John,
We have had CT for 3 years now came out of Ruerto Rico. All we had to do to
make her a good ship is change the lower spar cap, replace both engine
mounts, hang two new engines, install a new panel with new radios, and
convert her to turbos. The paint was already pretty good.

LOL, yep, that's the airplane I flew...shortly after it returned from Puerto
Rico and still had a little bit of time before the annual. I did a night IFR
flight in it, and 30 min. into the flight, the whole panel went dark on me.
That was followed 5 min. later by a blown hose & ensuing complete hydraulic
failure. Got the gear down & locked and landed at a nearby field. Typical
Commander, the "emergency" was a non-event. Ended up having to ferry it back
to Hayward the next day with the gear down & locked, it took a little while
Smile.

Glad to hear you've done all that work. I love seeing these airplanes
restored & put back to work the way they should be!

Hopefully I'll be able to add to your pleasure by sending around pictures of
an almost fully restored N414C next month...

All new avionics, new autopilot, one new engine, two overhauled props, new
interior, new external lighting... To quote another poster: "The paint is
still in good shape tho."

Robert,

I'm hoping to get up to Stead for the air races. I thought maybe I could
wangle an invite to your hangar for a closeup look. Last time I saw N414C in
the flesh was 2000, and it was in pretty good shape then. I imagine when
you're done, it'll be showroom-new!

It is good to know N414C is being refurbished.

It really hurt to watch my old 560 go on e bay for pennies because of corrosion. I suspectr it now powers 2 airboats and is a parts source for others.
