Brian,

Can you find out where you got those solid state drives? I have been trying
to find one for my Fujitsu and cannot seem to locate one that will fit.

Well, I was thinking in terms of standard rotating media in a sealed,
metal enclosure. The drive has to be able to effectively transfer its
heat to the metal box so the heat can be carried away. (No convective
cooling here. You are using conductive cooling now.)

not to mention their "everybody has one" EIS 4000 has been around for what, 10 years or more? I don't know but it seems like that long.

GRT was first not BMT. BMT was first with a stand alone retail EFIS product. GRT has been making components that support other aviation products such as air data computer for Chelton (Serria at the start) as an example.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Okay if anybody can shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.
I currently run a Fujitsu P1510D tablet. I dont know but I am guessing it
has a 1.8" hard drive. I would like to replace that hard drive with a solid
state device that will run the computer, boot it up etc. To avoid the
"10,000 ft" limitation that Brian has already cautioned us about. Does
ANYBODY know where to find this drive??? Anywheremap has sourced one. They
are offering a new version of the motion with that ss hard drive.

Harry -

Do I read your posting as: Anywhere Map is offering a Motion Tablet with a
hard drive? If so, Anywhere Map is the orange and Motion is the Apple -
pun intended. They are two different companies.

Cheers,

John

John,
As it was explained to me at their booth at OSH, AnywhereMap is retrofitting
the ss hard drives into the Motion tablet, and selling them as the LS800SS
or something to that effect.

What about Dynon? Going to do simple mostly VFR day stuff. Seems like they have pretty good bang for the bucks. Looking toward the D100. Any personal experiences either pro or con?

Does anyone have recommendations on GRT vs BMA-Lite? I am looking for a reliable IFR unit. I will go with Dual AHRS, separate avionics buss/battery, etc. The real decision is which vendor – prices turn out to be pretty similar.

Thanks

Dan

If I were going to fly VFR only, I certainly would go with this system. (Maybe couple with a G496 to get weather and moving map) It is cheap and should be far more reliable, over the long run, than vacuum. They have huge market share due to price, giving them plenty of resources to offer a solid product.

The trouble I am having is I want solid IFR with moving map and XM – not Dynon features.

Compair's owner said during a press conference at OSH they won't be
using/offering OP Tech gear in any of their aircraft (they're seeking
certification for the -9 and -12) because they can't get the systems to
work.

Compair was the rumored source of the legal challenge to Rick Schrameck
and Dr. Cadwell's kitbuilt Epic LT at OSH '05. After the dust settled,
Rick got the coveted FAA Kit Approval Letter, Dr. Cadwell received his
Conditional Airworthiness and Tom Poberzny agreed to prominently display
three Epic's on the main flight line. The spat wasted lots of time and
money within the FAA. The new 51% Task Force is beginning at the point
the dust settled.

With Rick selecting OP Tech for the certification pursuit, I would
imagine Compair is still pouting by such a statement. Everyone should
do the kind of research Tim Olson did regarding his selection of Chelton
and watch as Deem Davis's OP Tech comes down the production line. Can
someone substantiate a rumor that it won't work?
