The hole on my RV-8A (older kit) is 3/8" diameter. Owners of newer RV models (RV-7A & RV-9A) report holes of 5/8" diameter.

Brett,
Your photo shows the rear spar of the horizontal stabilizer, not the elevator spar. Please check the size of the hole in the elevator spar.
