George I don't have any pictures but Reno (Bill Cruthers) has his mounted on the firewall. You might get him to take a few pictures the next time his cowl is off.

Thanks for the info.I am trying to decide where to mount it since some people are saying that mounting it on the baffles causes them to crack( the baffles). Also I heard that mounting it on the firewall may run hotter for the IO360.

thanks for the help

George, which RV? Here's a photo of a -9A:

http://www.n523rv.com/fwf/
Bill C. has his on the other side, but he has an -8.

I just received the mounting kit, but I haven't made
any decisions yet whether to install it on FW or not.

It is a 7A and I am ready to mount mine I was goingto do it last night but
stoped because of the fact i have never seen one and i am woried about
mounting it where later it might get in the way. it seems that the left side
of the firewall (lower section) itis not a busy as the rest so I am sure
that is where it is going , also I hope that the hoses will be long enough.

There have been a few busted baffles, but it's hardly a guaranteed failure.
I think it offers better cooling and when done right, will serve you well
for a long time.

See attached. I got the tube reinforcement from Dan C. Knock on wood,
holding up well so far...

Thanks for all the info and pictures I am grateful for having a great tool
with this group and getting all this info .
It seems that it makes sense to mount it on the baffles as far as cooling
and it can be reinforced so it can be more durable.

George I have not seen either as an issue. Bill's 360 cooler is on the firewall and his temps are fine. My cooler is on the baffle and I have no cracks. However I did add additional bracing to support the cooler. Worry about issues as they arise works best for me. I have 140 hours TT.

George,

Give some thought to the other firewall mount items Batteries, Solenoids,
Transducers etc. Mine worked out ok but I had to do some interesting
fittings on the oil cooler lines to get the hoses routed without
interference. I used a triangular shaped mount made from aluminum angle I
had welded up locally. The cooler is tilted down about 45 degrees and the
oil lines enter from the inboard side. If I could offer one thing it is to
plan everything that is going to mount on the firewall make templates or do
what ever works to avoid later workarounds. The planning time will be well
spent, believe it or not it gets crowded on that big firewall.
just my .02

Larry I am following Vans plans on the fire wall and they dont have a
location for the oil cooler install on the firewall, but i looked a couple
of installations on oil coolers on the firewall and the left lower side of
the FW is clean and that is where it would go . I am finishing all the prep
work for the FW before I install the engine mount .

George my advise is to hold the engine mount up to the firewall to guage
placement of the oil cooler.

The engine mount is not the issue, what is going on the firewall is. Vans
plans dont cover the oil cooler FW mount option, that is why I am checking
with others so i dont have to do it twice. Thanks for the suggestion.
