OK, I know the plans say flute until the ribs straighten out. I realize the flutes are evenly spaced, but how much (or hard) do you flute? Do you increase the number of flutes or make the evenly spaced ones deeper. The earlier sets of plans show you where to flute, the new ones do not since the holes are pre-punched.
This is for on my RV-7 which is just getting under way.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

My ribs were completely un-fluted when I got them back in '90, and they
were in horrible shape (kinda like pretzels). Where the worst of the
bend is, you flute closely, maybe 1/2", making sure there are flats for
the rivets and that the spacing is ok. Flute lightly at first, and
harder as you get the feel of how much they're moving. I still have
tendonitis from that...

Hi David - where are you building?
I'm working on an -8 empenage in Winston-Salem.
for fluting, read the post by "gpiney" titled 'there IS a science to the
art'. it's the tenth post on this thread:
http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=7864&highlight=fluting
I printed it out and put it in my build manual. works like a charm.

Thanks Carter,
I will try the "refined" method as described. I have two units with a curve, everything else seem ok.
In response to your question, I am buillding in Greensboro, right off Friendly Av.
