The reason for the trip was Lynnies cousins reunion in Denver, CO. We
planed a stop in Kansas City, MO to visit a cousin on the way out and a
stop in Denton, TX on the way back to visit my Dad's sister.
The first day we flew up to a front near Kansas City and stopped over night
in Springfield, MO (SGF).
The next day we made it to Kansas City, MO with a little scud running the
last 10 minutes.
On to Denver the next day with a fuel stop at Kit Carson airport (ITR) in
CO. Ran scud for first 2 hours and broke out clear the rest of the way to
Denver Centennial Airport (APA).
Cappy gave rides to 5 cousins in Denver. Highest DA 8,900'. Cappy's Toy
really was awesome. I learned to lean on takeoff which helped a lot.
Takeoff rolls were longer and it took a lot of power during taxi but there
was really no problem even with the cruise prop.
On the way to Texas we followed a front and had to stop over night in
Weatherford, OK (OJA) do to Thunderstorms in Texas. During approach I
noticed my MP was reading 28" and suspected something was wrong. Early the
next morning I popped the top (cowling) and found the MP line hanging form
#3 cylinder. I borrowed a flaring tool and re-made the flair and in 10
minutes, Cappy's Toy was good to go.
The flight to Denton, TX (DTO) that morning was in clear calm air with a
nice tail wind.
The last day we made it home in 5.0 hours with a stop in Tupelo, MS (TUP).
Great little place, but Elvis was not there to greet us. Clear sky's and
tail winds coming home till we got to GSP and had to dodge a few storms.
All in all, a really great adventure and Miss Lynnie enjoyed it almost as
much as I did.

Highest Sustained GS: 210 mph
Average GS: 176 mph
Total Landings: 14
Total Airports: 10
Longest Leg: 2.5 hours
Longest Day: 5 hours

Average BO: 8.7 gal/hour
Miles Per Gallon: 20.3
Total Fuel Cost: $ 625.67
Average Fuel Price: $ 3.79 per gal
RV's are unbelievable!!!
Would I do it again? You bet!
Next planned trip October 11, to Land of Enchantment (5T6) Dona Ana County
Airport at Santa Teresa, New Mexico. This is billed as the largest RV only
fly-in in the world. I'll be flying in loose formation with some friends in
N. Florida.

Nice writeup, Cappy. Thanks.
All that flying you did and no IFR - seems hard to believe. Even
after the Labor Day misadventure, I'm still going to go for my rating.
It's got to be useful at some point
