On my 801 I have a 76 inch Sensenich two-bladed, fixed pitch, one-piece
forged aluminum alloy cruise propeller which is anodized to retard
corrosion. It was the prop supplied by Zenith.
Not ever having any other prop I have nothing to compare it with, but I
certainly do not need any more climb capability. When I am alone (with
60 gal fuel) I can climb about 1000 ft/min or more at 60 knots. My
straight and level cruise speed at 2500 rpm (approx 80% power) is 85-90
knots.
Although some 801 builders prefer a wooden prop, I think the only
advantage (other than cost) is that in the event of a prop strike the
prop will be sacrificed and the engine might not be damaged. Also,
wooden props look nice, but I think the combination of a wooden prop on
an all-metal airplane looks a bit odd.

Larry,
Thanks for the reply. I agree on props. A wood prop looked really good on the J3 Cub I had but I wouldn't want one on the 801. I am told that metal props, although heavier are more efficient than wood.
What do you estimate your ground roll on takeoff is. I'll probably be flying off concrete most of the time and also solo, so I'm curious what the takeoff distance really is. Also, I'm on about 200 MSL.

Hi guys I'm building an 801 also and bought my prop from Catto Propellors. For the price its probably a good choice until you can afford something better like a constant speed prop that reverses for when your on floats!!

I curious as to the specs on your prop. Length, pitch, # of blades??? I assume that you are installing a O360?

My propellor is a 3-Bladed Wood/Glass Composite and has a 68" Diameter x52" pitch and isgoing on my IO-360 by Teledyne Mattituck. You can checkout everything I've got on my links website. Craig Catto will make any spec you want and is good to deal with. I got the idea from Gary L. website to go with a Catto Prop.
