				Hi folks,

I subscribed to this list some time ago, and see very little action.   I bought my Falco plans in 1983. Starting a career sort of put me on hold until 1993. I bought the tail parts and started but got distracted by children (rotten little creatures that they are). Last one left for college last weekend. I started building an RV 8 about a year ago and am having way too much fun back into the shop. I would dearly like to build a Falco as my next project, but continue to think about the frustration I found in trying to deal with wood and the changing weather. Never-the-less, without kids around and a lot of contiguous shop time, I think I will get it done this time.

The question remains, there is a very active RV on line community, here on Matronics and at Vansairforce.net. Is there a more active place for the Falco community? I would like to lurk for a year or two and learn about how to get past my previous wood issues.

  Regards,

 Hello Michael,

I jump on this also to get out of lurking mode. First of all I can
inform you there is also another discussion list under Yahoo
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/falcof8l/), which also suffers from the
same problem i.e. lack of traffic. I can see two reasons for that:

 1) Everybody is lurking, so no one starts discussing something and the
 list remains silent

 2) While the Van's Air Force can be measured in tens of thousands, the
Falcoholics are measured in tens at best, and this is reflected in the
number of people in the discussion list.

Having said that, there's no reason to remain silent, and this is the
only way to start counting at least in hundreds.

Although I'm also a rookie with Falcos I made a pretty good experience
working with wood. In fact, the Falco will be my fourth wooden
homebuilt, so I think I can give some decent advice on wood building
techniques. Exactly, why are you "frustrated" with wood?

 SeeYa!

 Hello Fellow Falcoholics,
I am a new Falco builder still waiting for my wood to arrive. I decided to order
all the wood kits at once from Western Aircraft Supplies in Canada and because of
this I have to wait about 6 months for delivery. Any day now I should get the
delivery date confirmed! Hope you are hooked into this Marc! Anyway, I purchased
the Falco plans over a year ago and have been in overload since trying to work out
what options to apply etc... Sequoia's web site is great. The plans and manual are
also very good - but I have discovered some minor mismatches. I will put these to
the group shortly for suggestions. I have obtained almost all my building info from
the very helpful small group of Aussie and Kiwi builders as well as all the internet
groups that you can browse and our local experimental (SAAA) groups.

I have been “listening” in for about a year now on this Falco site now but don’t
have much wisdom to offer new builders as I am yet to make my first real bit of
aircraft. I have just made some practice bits - jigs and RST antennas.

Thanks also Ryan for those great photos - still trying to download all those
interesting looking movies – dialup is hopeless. It sure does encourage you to get
on and finish your bird. Thanks Michael, George and Andrea for waking us up!
 Cheers,

				Hi Garry..
Pleased to hear that the wood is at least in transit.. so shouldn't be
 long now.
Personally, I think a Bulletin board would be a much better medium for
builders.. you can split things into topics which means you don't have
to read what you don't want to and it works a bit more on your own time
rather than being emailed to you. I also like the 'thread' style of posting.
I think fly-ins and general discussions for the sake of socializing is a
bit easier on a BBS too.
I put it to Alfred once and got a one line reply "I am violently opposed
to the idea"... so I didn't bother going any further.. I couldn't be
bothered stirring the pot so I just keep my emails to other Falco
builders 'quiet' and socialize outside of the more public arena.
I don't think that this will survive.. for better or worse.. but I'm
 keen to keep trying.
One thing that really bugs me about it is the continual emails on rules
of posting etc.. it seems like they want to control the emails to the
extent that if it isn't a technical question or answer then it will get
dumped.. kind of removes the fun of the social aspect.
 Anyhow...
Just put the panel back in my Falco.. had it out doing a few things.. a
new intercom.. actually I think the old one's main issue was a poorly
designed harness that is supplied but now I have a PM3000 stereo
intercom.. great with the iPod plugged in!
Also installed a height sensing gear warning system.. works like a
ground prox in an airliner. If the ground is sensed within 150' and
closing while the gear is up.. you get a loud "Check Landing Gear" in
 your ear... works great.
Did something else too but can't remember what... bloody old age !
Going to Rotorua tomorrow to take a friend for a fly so I'm hoping the
forecast rain holds off although I flew over a very nasty row of CB's
mid Tasman coming home from Sydney today so I hope they aren't moving
 too fast.
Get building folks.. its heaps of fun.

				Hi George, and all,
A quick update on Falco #1413. We have the spar in the jig all plumbed
up and are now fitting the nose ribs. The plumbing of the whole jigged
structure took quite a bit of time and fiddling but once completed was
very satisfying. The fuselage frames together with the assembled
stabilizer/fin component are sitting awaiting the wing.
Starting to get a little cooler here in the Toronto area of Canada with
night time lows in the 5C area. No need for heat just yet as the hangar
 is very well insulated.
George, I like the idea of your gear warning system. We are considering
installing some time of warning system too.
 Let's keep communicating!
