Hi

Over the past few days I have been assembling all the miscellaneous power tools that I need to start construction. One in particular has me a bit perplexed.

I just bought a Ryobi 9” band saw that came with a wood blade. I put a new ¼” x 14 tooth / inch blade in. The blade specs say it is ok for non ferrous materials at a reduced speed. Unfortunately this band saw does not have a speed adjustment. It is rated to cut a constant speed of 3000 fpm.

I have tried cutting a test piece of 2024 and it seems ok but I am out of my depth as to what is acceptable and safe.

My question is, show I find a variable speed band saw or will this one do. Opinions?

Inquiring minds need to know.

Les,

I have the same one and it works fine. I did by the largest metal blade I could though - I found the 1/8" in blade flexed too much.

Other than that it's fine.
