Gentlemen,
did anybody ever thought about putting
a M-462RF engine with a V-520
propeller on a CJ? Those engines and
propellers are certified in quite some
countries and all bulletins and ADs are
posted on the internet.
As far as I have learned, those engines
are still available directly from the
factory in the Czech Republic.

Your opinions and thoughts are highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Elmar,
I have been working with the folks in the Czech Republic for a year now
about this matter. We have discussed many options trying to get the price
down to a point where it would make sense to use this engine. Unfortunately
the FOB (at their port) price is over 20K for a fully overhauled engine, so
the question must be asked, why not just buy a M14B or P? In my opinion the
FOB (in the US) price would have to be somewhere close to 15K before it
would make sense.
I do have a V520 propeller coming for a M462RF engine which I have here at
Omak. I am anxious to see how the CJ will perform with that conversion, but
don't hold much hope that this conversion will ever replace the 285 because
of the cost. At this time the M14B and M14P seem to give the buyer the most
"bang for the buck" cost vs. horsepower wise. I personally like the B
better than the P because it's TBO is 1000 hours compared the P's 500 hours.
Yes the P is a bit more powerful than the B, but for the average guy's use I
seriously doubt you'd notice the difference if both engines were ran at the
same RPM.
Always Yakin,
Doug Sapp

Thanks, Doug. As usually concise and to the point. ...Blitz [quote][b]
