Hi gang,
My friend lost all the readings to the MP gauge in the front cockpit
of his 52 yesterday after landing. I've agreed to go and have a look
at it for him tomorrow and to check the back one is working. Any tips
on what I should look for up front that may have gone wrong?
TIA
Happy Landings

Most likely it's the solder connections on the tach generator cannon plug on
the left side of the engine. Pretty common.

Scratch that. That would be for the tach.
Not awake yet this morning.

Hummm......lets see. The propeller not turning will cause that problem and
it will be extremely quiet in the cockpit (just kidding of course). There
is no MP gauge in the rear cockpit of the 52. Most likely it is the
instrument if the engine appears to be producing normal power during run up
and take off.

Apologies for butting in:
Where I come from the flight deck is that largish
space on top, the roof, of a boat that has many of
those small gray swoopy shape things sitting around
downstairs and upstairs. The grayish swoopy-shape
things are all outfitted with cockpits.
....... thanks for the opporunity to lurk and learn
something about your airplanes.

Martin,
A simple way to ground check the manifold gauge function is to see if it correlates with the ambient altimeter pressure engine off.
The Russian MP gauge measures in mmHg (torr) which is conveniently 3/4 (0.7500615 to be pedantic) of your (UK) altimeter millibar reading ... i.e. 1000mb equates to 750mmHg.
Easiest way to calculate this is to take 3/4 of ambient pressure variation from 1000mb and factor this against 750mmHg ... so 1020mb => 3/4 x (1020mb - 1000mb) = 15mmHg + 750mHg = 765mmHg
The manifold gauge is only marked in 20mmHg divisions so this will not give a particularly accurate reading ... especially as its probably never been re-calibrated since manufacture.
However it should be good enough to ascertain whether the MP gauge is working or not to help with your fault finding.
FYI ... on my 52 the MP gauge reads 10mmHg low against the altimeter reading.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Rob

Thanks for that Rob. Will check it tomorrow.
