If you gave me one, I probably couldn't afford the fuel!
Well, maybe every other month or so, but that wouldn't help to remain current in the bird.

I've always been the kind of guy who likes a project. I've a number of cars in my past I built/rebuilt to varying degrees, and now the kitplane deal. Don't know about doing a 29 though. I've no turbine experience, other than riding in airliners! I'd probably be in over my head with a L-29 "project". The learning curve with the kit plane has been straight up! Any of you guys "put together" a 29 with little prior experience?

I’m doing it right now. I have an A&P license which helps, but the aircraft is simple and designed for field maintenance. In many regards it is a far safer project than a composite homebuilt.

Paul, and others..
The ailerons, elevators, and flaps are manual push pull type controlled I think. How about the gear retraction? Pneumatic or hydraulic? Brakes are pneumatic? Canopies open/close with manual cranks? Any electric/hydraulic/pneumatic control of canopies? Thanks!

Most all of us had little or no experience. If you prefer building rather than flying, there are some real "Projects" out there. Ask some of the guys that got "Good deals" on their L-29s. I know of several that have more in it than they would have had they bought a flying one. I'm not talking about 100% rebuild. I'm saying take one that is flying for about $40 or a "Good Deal" for ??? put it together right out of the box. The parts you are missing or need to replace are not as cheap as they use to be. However, the one flying for $40 has radio, ELT, intercom, US altimeter and airspeed, AND is certified already.
The learning curve is much flater. These airplanes are bullet proof. Easy and comparatively cheaper to maintain. Plus there are a lot of owners willing to help. Thats the beauty of it!
So "project" airplanes are available and fun to do if you are not easily frustrated. Dollar for dollar, by one flying.

Got thinking about it the other day, you know you can buy a flying L-29 for about the cost of a OH 1820 for a T-28!
