I have a totally stock #2 when I added clear tape to rudder gap the difference was huge. In fact, every 2 years or so I replace .
For me its a strong recommendation and very easy to do.
I flew it about 100 hours without, and now have about 350 TT.
Without the tape, if, in calm air trimmed hands off and I lift my feet off the floor, it would yaw to one side or another... with a touch of aileron it would yaw strongly the opposite way. With the tape it holds direction and adverse yaw is still there but less.
Its simply a case of increasing area aft of CG. A gap leaks terribly.
I do the elevator too.
Ailerons are kinda tough to seal however...

I put a small tab on my rudder. It seems to keep the plane pretty straight at most flight attitudes. Previous to the tab installation I would come back from an hour of flying with cramps in my right foot.
The gap seals sound like a good idea more rudder authority will give a better slip performance too! As you say the seals will help reduce drag not that its a big concern to me the plane will never see warp factor 1!!

Noel , do you havea ventral fin on your Kitfox while on floats ?
I have flown with and without and find with the fin it flys with less control power needed for rudder pedals.
Without the fin it wass like flying on train tracks with very stiff rudder.
Gaps seals, I have not done but I have good elevator authority but will you gain anything from it speed wise ?

If there was a speed gain, I didn't notice. Putting fairings on all struts made a very big difference.
In fact, installing wheel pants ( fairings) now....

Yes the ventral fin attaches to the front cross through tube and the support for the tail wheel spring. I was able to design a simple stinger to bolt through with it... They say it's not really a floatplane without the stinger.
