List,
What are 912 flyers using for engine oil?
The Rotax "Service Instruction" (SI-18-1997) that I have is several years old.
Possibly this isn't the most recent list of recommended oils, but I have noticed that some of the wording used in the "Description" column does not match the labels on present-day products.
Maybe I've overlooked a later version of this listing.
As an example, Rotax lists "Mobil 1". There are at least three versions of Mobil 1; automobiles, 4-stroke motorcycles, and V-Twin motorcycles; Rotax doesn't specify which.
The glossy brochures pitch all the benefits (usual manufacturers' hype) but there is a difference stated.
The motorcycle version is said to contain gear-lubricating additives.
Likewise there are other slight differences between the Rotax list nomenclature and what is actually on the shelves of Wal-Mart, NAPA, AutoZone, etc, etc.
It looks like a slow day, so everybody jump in here......we might all learn something.
Thanks, and don't forget the flowers for Mother's Day!!

Per the service bulletin (don't remember the number offhand) and per conversations with a tech rep from LEAF, and per a talk with Phil Lockwood, I use Valvoline Durablend 10w-40. It's a semi
synthetic oil that is compatible with both mogas and avgas usage. And also should be available at your local auto parts dealer.

If you are using only automobile gas then a synthetic like Mobil 1 is good
to go. However, if you are using AVGAS for a good portion of the time, you
need a semi-synthetic oil. I'm using Aeroshell Semi-Synthetic.
