Overhead Seat Belt Holder Attach

I've seen lot of  -10's (including Van's) with a seat belt strap holder mounted overhead on the  canopy between the front seats.  How are people attaching it?  I  drilled mine between the doors near the front door hinges and there is foam  between the layers of fiberglass.  I could either pull rivet it (but then  it is not easily removable for the headliner, etc.) or drill through the whole  top and use flat head screws.  

  

 Just wondering what  others were doing

Removing the rear hinge nuts and installing under those nuts, so it's

not requiring any additional holes.

Folks are using the door hinge bolts.

They are fairly easy to fabricate but if you are lazy like me Jesse Saint 

might sell you a couple.  I believe he might also make you a tunnel 

console/mapbox.

If you don’t want it under the same nuts as the door hinges, you can pop rivet a plate with nutplates in it to the cabin top and screw into the nutplates.  This is a good way to fasten a lot of different things to the cabin top where desired.

I don't know if I have photos or not, but I can take some.  I used

photos of Randy's to make mine.  They're just a joggled piece of

aluminum.  Jesse also takes it up a notch and has leather covers

for them, but you could use whatever leather/vinyl/cloth you want

if you wanted them covered.

A photo would be great!  Does the aluminum tend to bend out of shape

when used or do you make them just loose enough that the belt just slips

in?  When flying solo does the pass belt stay secured ok?

They do bend down some, but just use a little stiffer material

and they'll stay pretty good.  They're plenty loose to

just slip the belt in.  When solo, I can leave the other

belt in, but the buckles jingle, so I usually pop it out

and let it sit on the back seat.  I attached a photo that

I dug up that was in the photos area of my site.  It's

the hangers Van's RV-10 has.  Mine are a little wider, and

I attached them to the rear door hinge instead of the front,

but the concept is the same.

I usually suggest hooking up the unused shoulder harnesses to the seatbelt

when not being used.  That's one projectile I would like to have "tied off"

if I was in an accident or in turbulence.  When stuff starts happening, the

last thing you want is to have seatbelts dangling in your face.  In fact, we

always leave the rear seat belts fastened as if someone was in the seat and

that also acts as a retainer for the baggage area in case something wanted

to fly forward in a sudden stop situation.

In response to Mike Kraus' post a couple of days ago I  shoot some pictures of the shoulder harness belt  holder that I made and installed.  It works great and can be viewed  at:

 For storage you can either cross the belts as shown above  or just put them on the holder left and right.  When flying without a  co-pilot or rear seat passengers I keep the shoulder belts and seat belts  buckled up so that they cannot fly around if something happens  unexpectedly.
