Hello,

The AD related to Service Bulletin 90D is due on the Aero Commander I fly (680 FLP, N91ES). That SB pertains to the wing spar cap inspection due every (now) 750 hours. Looks like we'll have to take the center fuel cell out for that job. By chance, does anyone know of a situation where one can avoid taking the fuel cell out but still be able to complete the inspection?

Thank you,

Ray Mansfield

Better yet,
Get some of this valuable information collected and posted to the web
site. The amount of fantastic data that has flowed through this list
then off into the great bit bucked is really sad. To this day, I get
phone calls with questions from people who tried to find answers on web
sites. JB/Nico - no offense intended at all, but there are a lot of
holes in the web site. There were some really great documents - like
Barry's master STC list - and the detailed model descriptions that are
gone now. Quite a few broken links as well. The site used to have a
tech tips section with some AD/SB info as well as user submitted
documentation like Milt's 685 performance calculator. I think it would
be a great service to Commander owners to put some effort into putting
valuable commander-specific information online.
All to soon, none of "us" are going to be here and that web site may be
the only backup of the tribal lore!

Folks,

I take all criticism in a positive spirit and admit that the site hasn't in
the past received the attention it deserved. That started to change a while
ago, which I hope was noticeable in the smaller changes being dealt with
more rapidly.

I believe that I still have all the communications in archive that has been
sent over the years. If I remember correctly, when this list went over to
Matronics from the previous list-hosting service, I supplied most of the
historical posts from my archives to prevent a restart from scratch. So, I
will retrieve whatever I have from said archive and work it into the site. I
need your patience and indulgence as I work on this labor of love.

Keep the comments flowing, especially regarding broken links, spelling
mistakes, and other irritating things. Please be specific where the errors
are spotted by stating the page name and perhaps referencing a paragraph, so
that finding a problem doesn't involve saddling up a posse. The policy is to
take care of those almost immediately so that the small items don't bog the
site down.

Thanks

Nico

Nico,
I believe I still have my entire original web site archived. I see you
have some parts of it still under the Library->Web archives section.
There were a huge number of photos there along with scans of most of the
Commander brochures ever printed and a number of useful documents. Many
of those links are dead.
If I can be of any assistance in supplying missing information, you have
but to ask. Even though I'm no longer a Commander owner, I still would
like to see the web site survive and grow. I spent many years
collecting the information, creating that web site, and trying to keep
valuable updates going, so it's ongoing survival is somewhat personal.

Chris

Hi Chris,

I appreciate your help and dedication. Web technology has grown
exponentially since this site was designed and I would like to make it more
efficient and usable. I did notice images in one of the folders that
correspond with what you are referring to. So, there are a lot of things
floating on the server that are very valuable. As I work through the data,
I'll definitely call on your assistance and those of others, too.

Thanks

Nico

Chris,

I have read your contributions pertaining to the proper care and maintenance of commanders for quite some while now, and find them not only greatly helpful but also beneficial to the mechanics I let around my machines. I think it is very fair to say that I have the mechanical aptitude of a post..wooden or metal.

I am proof that one can be a very happy commander owner without the knowledge that is possessed by you and the other contributors/owners/former owners/soon-to-be owners and will remain that way just as long as you folks continue to post those things that become issues and their solutions.

I had no idea that upon purchasing a commander I would indirectly receive the support I have received. I do not have the technical qualifications to contribute to the postings, except to say if someone needs to know how to spend money to maintain an airplane in proper condition I am that person.

Thanks To All,

Buddy A. Plaster

90C does not require removal of the fuel cell. The inspection is of the forward (cabin) side of the lower spar cap and is accessed through the upper cabin area. Remove the headliner and insulation and the area it is visable. Some owners modify the headliner to make access a bit easier. jb

Thanks for the information. Undoubtedly you have had your plane inspected in accordance with SB-90C (Almost no difference between 90D). My question: In reading 90C or 90D the SB specifically says to remove the center fuel cell to do the inspection. We're talking part of the wing spar. How does one avoid removing the fuel cell when it says to do so. I'm not saying you are incorrect, I'm just inquiring about how you get around that requirement and still get to the parts needing inspection.. Thank you for the information.

Thanks Buddy. I think underestimate the value you may have to others

though. These days, the technical savvy needed to maintain a Commander
is certainly important, but knowing not how to spend money, but "with
whom to spend money" is just as critical.

cheers,
Chris

Ray, I hate to contradict JB - especially without a copy of 90D in front
of me, but I believe you are correct. I'm almost 100% sure that you are
indeed required to remove the cell to inspect the rear of the spar. Is
90D available in electronic form anywhere? I'd sure appreciate it if
someone could email me a copy or point me to a URL so I can refresh some
old brain cells.

Thanks,

Nico,
The web site is not coming up?

Chris,
you make a good point about having the AD's on the web site or the
links to the FAA web site.
This is a resource that we need to have reference to.
