Gary,

This is my first post and I am a relatively new user, so I am probably asking for information that is old hat to some! I have a 1977 Tiger that needs complete restoration. I understand you have started a IO-360, ported and polished, project. How is that coming along? Are there any 200 HP engines available that do NOT have angle valves? When I spoke to the True Flight representative at Oshkosh, he mentioned that the factory was doing a 200 HP STC for the Tiger. Has anyone else heard this and how is that STC coming along? If I have to do an engine swap on my Tiger, I want to get a clear picture of what my engine choices are!! Thanks for any info you can provide!

Ken

Hi Ken,
There are several 200 hp Cheetahs/Tigers out there. The STC for one of the installations is somewhere. Bob Steward has more knowledge of that than I do.
That said, I wouldn't do a 200 hp installation. The engine is 40 lbs heavier. The engine mount needs to be changed. You need new baffles. The airbox is changed. and, well, let Bob tell you what he experienced.
A ported and polished O360 will make 205 to 215 hp. The engine I put in N9186M made 219 hp on the LyCon dyno.
My engine is nearly ready to install. I'm just waiting for it. The plane is getting a restoration, cabin forward, and that may take a while. I will be using an IO360-B1G6. It's counter-weighted so I can use a 2-blade Hartzell prop.
If you are on Facebook, find AuCountry Aviation and "Like" the page. You'll see a lot of pics of a lot of things I'm doing for Tigers and Cheetahs.

Gary,

Is there an STC out there that allows installation of the IO360-B1G6 or will you have to go thru the STC process once you get the engine ready?

I'm developing the STC. Want to start a list? Deposits would surely make it go faster.
